Teaching for the Future

“They always say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” — Andy Warhol

If it has been done a hundred times, it is boring, dusty and irrelevant—new insight, new material and new approaches should be incorporated into teaching every day!

Ongoing learning and improvement of lessons, material and practices is an integral aspect of being a teacher. The day I wake up and think: “This year was perfect, there is nothing I should change”, is the day that I will retire. There is always room for improvement; there are always new and exciting studies and best educational theory.

In my third field experience, I had two third grade classes. I would spend one week teaching material to one class, and the next week teaching it to the other class. By the second week, I had already reflected on the lessons and modified what did not work. I cannot imagine teaching the same lessons, year after year, without doing this!
